Baby You Look so Good on the Dance Floor
All right...I know it's been an inexcusably long time since there's been an update. However:

"Dude...should I ask for one of their numbers? Will you give me twenty bucks?"
"It's Smoosh man, they're like 12"
"No, the older one's 16 I swear."
"I'm still calling the cops if you get one." Me and Doug are sitting in the Crocodile Cafe. We came to see We Are Scientists, but we got there early enough to grab some dinner first. Lo and behold, we're sharing the cafe with the band we came to see, and Smoosh. Apparently Smoosh and W.A.S. are buddies or something, because they seem to be chatting and enjoying things. Doug still wants digits. Fortunately he doesn't have the nerves to randomly walk up to a band and start talking with them (this is foreshadowing, by the way)...

The first couple acts have finished playing...both are pretty good. The second band, The Grates, hails from Australia and are certifiably insane. Not in the whole "they're so good it was insane" sense, but more in the "the chick who did vocals ran around in circles and pretended to be a squirrel" insane. I bought one of their T-shirts. After doing so, I went back to join the little group we had created (I totally ran into one of my friends from junior high that had a friend with him. Sup Ian.) As I rejoined the group, one of the kids we were with looked towards the back of the building and swore she saw the Arctic Monkeys eating with W.A.S.. On top of that, it looks like the band is staying to see the show, complete with an enormous, shaven-headed bodyguard. Naturally I was enlisted to go say hi.

Nick: Um, hi. So, this probably sounds crazy, but me and my friends were kind of arguing about this...are you guys the Arctic Monkeys?
Alex (of the Arctic Monkeys): Actually, yeah, we are. (it sounded more like "yeh we ahh" 'cause he's British and all)
Nick: Wow, that's great. We love your stuff and wish we could go to your concert.
Alex (of the Arctic Monkeys): Thanks...could you kind of keep it quiet that we're here? (cauld yoo kaind of kep it quiet tha' we'h heah?)
(Nick wanders off)

Now the plot thickens...in the middle of We Are Scientist's set, they have Alex come up and play a song with them...however, they don't tell the audience what band he's from. And at the end of the set, they all shout. "WHO'S GOING TO SEE THE ARCTIC MONKEYS TOMMORROW?!"

The crowd goes nuts. They have no idea the band they all love is in the room with them.

I feel rather complete.

  I'm really bad at this.
Regular updates continue to elude me.

This weekend was spent hanging out with a group of codependent friends and being extremely creative. Now it's finals week and today was spent with the mother of all hangovers.

Seriously, I was pretty sure I was gonna die earlier today. I kept on randomly puking, I couldn't really stand/walk a straight line/etc...it sucked. I'm done with hard liquor forever. And I mean it...done.

I think the worst part about the morning after is the residual guilt you get from having blacked out...there's a window in your life you're not accountable for and there's nothing you can really do to tell yourself that you weren't an utter ass. Absolutely awesome, that. I sure do love my alcohol now.

I guess the problem turns into what constitutes social drinking and what makes it going too far. I pretty much lost all of today to being hung over, so I probably overdid it a bit last night. Reasonable limits and moderation, doncha know.

In other news, I discovered Neil Gaiman's blog the other day. Seeing as he is my living idol I had to read as much as I can...somehow the bastard manages to post a cogent update every day. I'm kind of floored, seeing as I can't update regularly on a weekly basis. This does not bode well for my creative writing future...I'm not nearly motivated enough.

So yeah now I'm depressed. And hung over. Life is goooooood.

  ACK
So...movie I'm currently shooting...seems to be going to shit. None of the programs we used (Premiere, iMovie) could detect the camera (CURSE YOU SONY), so we're frantically looking for a different one so we can start editing...and what's more, from what we were able to extract, the sound doesn't synch with the visuals in some scenes, and a couple shots are just completely trashed. Fun. Did I mention this thing is due Sunday?

So yeah, rather busy. I think I'll post an addendum update later in the weekend...right now is a little too frantic to get serious.

I am a Human Being. Sometimes I write about what that fact means to me, but hopefully in a way that is not too pretentious or bothersome.
