A Fine and Proper Method of Defense
I was planning on doing a Sasquatch! writeup, but I stumbled upon this little internet gem.

Cane Fighting!

No. 4. -- How to Defend Yourself, without Running any Risk of being Hurt, if you are carrying only a Small Switch in your Hand, and are Threatened by a Man with a very Strong Stick.

Imagine that you are walking in a lonely part of the country, carrying a light switch or an umbrella, when suddenly a foot-pad bars your way, carrying a stout stick, with which he threatens you.

It is obvious that under these conditions if you gave your assailant time to assume the offensive, he would have no difficulty in breaking down any slight guard you might offer, and in felling you to the ground. Knowing this disadvantage, and without giving him time to realise it, you must at once attack.

this is probably the most valuable information I have ever come across. Thank you Edward William Barton-Wright.

  Pimpin' Ain't Easy
I am of the opinion that every blog needs a name drop, a long angst-ridden post, and the pimping of a new band or movie. It's time for me to plug a new band.

Great Lakes Myth Society

Beeeeeautiful. But how do they sound? Picture Neutral Milk Hotel with Arcade Fire instrumentation.

The bad news? They're only playing in Michigan.

You mined what you died for
Dig deep but don't dig too deep
When it's late you'll see the hole is empty and oh so deadly
They want me raw and smooth like glass
They want it fast but they don't want flaws
I'm a girl's best friend
Can you cut, I can cut, 'cause I'm a rough gem

Who lives in those lights in the distance?
Watered down, the rain will help you out
I had a dream, it was all a dream
But it was ruined by the sun shining in through me

I'm going to see Islands tonight. I'm rather excited to party in the streets.

I saw a unicorn in the woods outside my house today.
It had pearly-white fur and a horn that could have been opal, and eyes that glowed slightly with warmth and wisdom. It was very pretty.
I told my friend about it and he said that I probably saw a deer or something and that I was pulling his leg.
I left an apple on my porch that night in case the unicorn was hungry.
My mother came by the next morning, knocking on my door with an apple core in her hand and questions in her head about why I leave garbage on my lawn. I explained that I left an apple for the unicorn and she stared at me with her "why are we paying for your college" face. I put a carrot on my porch as soon as she left, and kept some sugar cubes in my pocket.
Then I waited.
I wasn't sure why I wanted to see the unicorn again. I didn't know what I would do if it came by. Riding it seemed wrong. A pat on the nose would probably be all right, but what if it got startled? The horn would be right near my eye. I resolved to cross all bridges when I came to them.
I ended up waiting for close on six hours, the day melting away into night before it came. It materialized out of the forest like a ghost, white and glowing.
I held out a handful of sugar cubes with bated breath.
It stretched its neck out and started to nibble. Its breath was hot against my arm.
I reached out and patted it on the neck. It didn't seem startled at all. The horn came nowhere near my eye.
Bolder, I walked to its side. It turned to look at me inquisitively, its horn shining in the moon.
I pulled myself up onto its back.
Me and the unicorn flew off into the night sky.

today I was walking to lunch, and saw a little poster about a talk about how woman are portrayed by the media. The picture on the poster? A whale.

Sometimes I love life.

I am a Human Being. Sometimes I write about what that fact means to me, but hopefully in a way that is not too pretentious or bothersome.
